St. Maarten is a unique country in the Caribbean with a history, legal status, culture, and socio-economic realities that make it stand out from other nations. The island has a history of colonization and struggle for economic independence that the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe and Native Nations can relate to.
The Dakota Sioux, ancestors of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, faced increasing pressure from white European settlers as the United States began to expand westward. The Isanti ceded their land and entered a reservation, and faced further challenges as the government did not meet its treaty obligations.
Similarly, St. Maarten has faced challenges in its history, including colonial practices and exploitation by European powers. By coming together, we can leverage our shared experiences and expertise to create a brighter future for St. Maarten.
The partnership between the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe and Native Nations with St. Maarten is a promising collaboration that will bring new economic development opportunities and help promote financial independence. By combining our knowledge, resources, and expertise, we can work together to create a sustainable future that benefits the community we are serving.
We are committed to building a sustainable future for St. Maarten. Our shared history and purpose enable us to understand and relate to the experiences of St. Maarteners, which makes this partnership even more meaningful.
Our shared experiences of overcoming trauma and institutional racism have made us stronger and more resilient. We are confident that by working together, we can build a brighter future for both the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe and Native Nations with St. Maarten.
We are excited about the possibilities this partnership presents and look forward to collaborating with the people of St. Maarten to create something truly special.
Our Nation-to-Nation Partnership with St. Maarten reflects our deep commitment to supporting and empowering communities on the island.
